RTHK Lunar New Year Celebration for the Year of the Rabbit
Marked the Launch of the 95th Anniversary of Public Service Broadcasting in HK

  To usher in Spring and welcoming the Year of the Rabbit, representatives of Hong Kong broadcasting industry gathered delightedly at the “RTHK Lunar New Year Celebration for the Year of the Rabbit” today (2 February) to share their blessings and extend best wishes for prosperity to all sectors of Hong Kong society.  As this year also marks the 95th anniversary of public service broadcasting in Hong Kong, the Guest of Honour Algernon YAU Ying-wah, Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development, and Eddie CHEUNG Kwok-choi, Director of Broadcasting joined hands to launch a series of celebration activities by hosting the kick-off ceremony besides making speeches.

  Director of Broadcasting Eddie CHEUNGannounced that “95 Years of Public Service Broadcasting, Stay Tuned with Hong Kong” would be the theme of a range of radio and television productions which featured on the development and milestones of Hong Kong broadcasting services.  Apart from organising the signature event - the “Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs Award Presentation Concert” in May, mobile exhibitions would be roving in various districts to showcase the development and achievements of RTHK over the past 95 years.  He revealed that RTHK would continue to connect with the community and produce more programmes to enhance public understanding of the society.  In addition, multi-language broadcasts on cross-media platforms would be reinforced with an aim to tell the world the good stories of Hong Kong.

  This year's Celebration featured the hybrid of Chinese and Western cultural, as well as the power and vigour of youths.  It started with multilingual New Year greetings, followed by refreshing performances by a cappella group VSing together with the local South African singer Eli Zaelo.  Subsequently, the members of the "Dream Comes True", who were nurtured by RTHK, namely WONG Po-yiu, YUEN Chun-yeung, LAU Mei-ga and YEUNG Yiu-chong partnered with professional skateboarder LUK Chun-yin to present a spectacular dancing cum skateboard performance, symbolizing the vitality of coming year.  LUK Chun-yin also disclosed his current preparation for the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou as well as his expectation of bringing glory to Hong Kong.  Furthermore, heralding the 90 years of public service broadcasting in Hong Kong, VSing and new singer Felix LAMperformed a medley of famous theme songs of RTHK’s TV programmes, while the "post-90s" erhu performer CHU Wan-pin and guitarist Sebastian POON jointly presented a string performance blended with both Chinese and Western music.  In order to send the best wishes to Hong Kong people, Algernon YAU Ying-wah, Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development, Eddie CHEUNG Kwok-choi, Director of Broadcasting together with Winnie TAM Wan-chi, Chairman of the Communications Authority, and Dr. LAM Tai-fai, Chairman of the RTHK Board of Advisors co-hosted the ribbon-tying and eye-dotting ceremonies for the traditional lion dance performance, which highlighted the Celebration.

SUNG Man-hei; representative of Now TV - Senior Vice President of HKT Home Marketing, PCCW Media Group Amy TSE Pui-kam; Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Phoenix Media Investment (Holdings) Ltd. YEUNG Ka-keung; and General Manager (Business Operations) ofTelevision Broadcasts Ltd. SIU Sai-wo.

  The Celebration was hosted by the member of "Dream Comes True" Zaza FAN and the host of RTHK TV32 programme “Hong Kong United” Michelle LAI.  It was broadcast live at 11:30am on Radio 2 (FM 94.8 – 96.9), RTHK TV31 and 32.  The archive of the event can be found on RTHK website (rthk.hk) and mobile apps “RTHK On The Go” and “RTHK Screen”.
