The “Post-90s” Musicians will Perform in the Final Recital
Date:2012-01-06

The year-round project Young Music Makers 2011 (YMM 2011) organized by Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK)has finally come to an end. After the two-week polling period from public, soprano Vivian Yau, Ruan quartet 4 x 4 Plucked and bassoonist Chan Ting-yuen got the highest votes and won the title of My Favourite Young Music Makers 2011. On top of that, Chan Ting-yuen is also crowned Adjudicator’s Choice. All of them will perform in “Young Music Makers 2011 Final Recital cum Prize Presentation” on 19 January, 2012 (Thursday) at 8pm in Studio 1, Broadcasting House, RTHK.

Held for over 30 years, Young Music Makers aims at nourishing young talents. Head of RTHK Radio 4 Jimmy Shiu emphasized that it is not a competition but rather aplatform for young artists to perform and share their passion for classical music with other music lovers. The adjudicating panel, formed by Hong Kong’s foremost pianist Nancy Loo, composer Professor David Gwilt and Jimmy Shiu, Head of RTHK Radio 4, received over a hundred submissions since April 2011. 13 of them were selected for public vote. Over the past months, they had attended interviews, press launch, recorded YMM CD as well as took part in programmes for RTHK Radio 4 and RTHK ETV respectively for gaining more coverage and popularity among the public. The programmes’ archive can be revisited on RTHK webiste (http://radio4.rthk.hk) or RTHK eTVonline(http://www.etvonline.tv/web/ymm/).

The voting started from 26 November till 10 December, 2011. Being one of the Top 3 Favourite YMM 2011, soprano Vivian has put a lot of effort in protecting her voice. She would like to give thanks to her vocal teacher who has taught her for the past 6 years. The members of 4 x 4 Plucked, Chan Sze-tung, Cheung Ka-yan, Ho Man-hin and Lam Hoi-ki, have known each other when learning Ruan in Music Office since little. The quartet could not help telling the great news to their teacher at once and hopes this will help to promote such traditional Chinese instrument. The Adjudicator’s Choice Chan Ting-yuen had the same thought of promoting his instrument as well. Regardless the compliment, he said he has room for improvement and would like to be more mature in handling the music and himself.

All 13 candidates will be presented certificates in “Young Music Makers 2011 Final Recital cum Prize Presentation”. The Top 3 My Favourite Young Music Makers 2011 will also perform during the event. Tickets are now available for free on a “first-reserved, first served” basis.
